Description

Continuing the series of cat paintings, I decided to do my cat Fig next, who's very important to me. He was born under my mom's bed a good 14 years ago, so he's been with me most of my life. He's fat, fluffy, big boned, just all around large. He's very laid back and friendly, and has always gotten along well with anything and everyone from toddlers to dogs to other cats. Actually, he's the reason why we've had as many cats as we've had. Fig is very maternal and loves kittens, and maybe every couple of years my parents would get him a brand new pair of kittens to raise. This combined with us taking in strays and other cats from people we knew brought our cat total up to 14 at one point. Which, in my personal opinion, was not at all a bad amount of cats to have. Honestly, I think not registering him as a therapy cat or having him play foster mother to some orphan kittens was a huge missed opportunity, but oh well. He's a bit old for that now. Besides kittens, his interests include: baths, being brushed, being petted, gnawing on the heads of bald people while they sleep, getting attention in general, and tiny yellow duck plushies.

This one was a bit daunting because he has long, messy fur with a somewhat complicated pattern, which is a combination of things I haven't really tried (at least with watercolors) before. That being said, I think I pulled it off pretty well. And instead of painting whatever boring old couch/bed each cat I paint is sitting on, I decided it would be cool to sort of wing it a lil and come up with something more interesting? So have a sunset. Wow, looks like I need to add practicing flat washes/ombres to my list of things to do to suck less at watercolors. Also, I keep forgetting to draw the whiskers in with gel pens. Whoops. I'm a bit too lazy to go back and fix it.
